Today there will not be a team presentation of the sort that we have been doing.
Instead of responding to an existing question,
your team will developing a topic for a potential paper on the
development of leisure culture in Paris.
Research Reports -- Day 4 Leisure
1) Go through the
materials assigned to you by your team and ask questions like these:
• What kinds of choices did Parisians make when deciding
how to use leisure time?
• What seems to have been important to them and why? What
are they valuing in making these choices? What seemed
important to them
• What patterns are you seeing that seem characteristic
of many different leisure activities during this period?
• What are some particularly striking examples of these
choices?
• Are there any similarities between what you are
encountering here and what we covered in the earlier days of
the course? |
2) Record what you have found in order to lay the
foundation for your team’s presentation and provide specific
examples of evidence that caused you to ask these questions
Team Presentation
Brainstorm with your team to develop a
topic for a hypothetical paper
-
Look at the questions that your
teammates identified in viewing the evidence
-
Identify a larger question that
is connected to some of these little questions
-
Think about the ways that this
question might be connected with some of the material or
issues that we dealt with earlier in the week
|
Produce the following:
-
A brief description of a paper
topic about leisure culture in Paris in our period
-
The big question around which
you would be structuring the hypothetical paper
-
The smaller questions that you
posed to reach a thesis
-
The tentative hypothesis about
leisure in Paris that you would be presenting
-
Some examples of the kinds of
evidence that you would be using to support this
hypothesis with an explanation of how each is connected
to your thesis
-
Some suggestions about how this
might be linked to earlier themes in the course
